Thabsie's new heartbreak single touches on femicide

In Thabsie's latest single 'Cry' she tells a story of a woman who tried to hold onto a relationship that wasn't working.

During an interview with TshisaLIVE the singer shared her view on femicide, and the blessing and curse of being a woman.

"I think that God blessed us with so much love and kindness but the blessing is also a curse because sometimes we give too much of ourselves," she said.
The musician is in the process of introducing herself to the world through music, and has released the single Cry featuring Kid X that tells a very chilling version of a relationship.

In her song, the opening verse reads like an open letter written by a woman who has been hurt and pours her heart out in retrospect.

"To be honest, I been thinking 'bout the time
You made a promise, steady messing with my mind
Wasted time (wasted time)
Sleepless nights (sleepless nights)
Worthless flights (worthless flights)

All I wanted was your love
I know that I deserved it
Did everything to earn it
I played a part
But from the start it clearly wasn't worth it. So I cry," the lyrics go.
She explained that issues like femicide need to be spoken about and dealt with (especially in relation to romantic relationships) because men can do better by women.

Thabsie explained that although she was not physically abused, she was in an unhealthy relationship before she met her husband.
"I wrote the song from a place of heartbreak. I want to put it out there that he [ her ex] never laid a hand on me but our relationship was not a healthy one," she said.
