It is a  fact so read carefully, The Mississippi River meets the Gulf of Mexico. The two bodies of water never mix with each other; allowing the Gulf of Mexico to retain its clear, blue color. Simply amazing!

The Gulf of Mexico dead zone is an oxygen-starved area devoid of most marine life. It is off the Louisiana coast where the Mississippi River empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
